The key to success is a school wide system of support for student achievement through collaboration. The focus is on what the student knows, what they should know and a plan to get them there. EAST willhave amore unified front for student success.
The key to success with RTI will be the willingness of EAMS staff to approach this with a determined attitude and a positive attitude towards change. EAMS has the most competent staff and have the ability to collaborate effectively which is going to be essential for RTI success. The end result I feel will be an increased sense of pride in student and staff abilities / accomplishments.
The use of RTI should improve early identification of student needs. I believe that it will also provide service to students who would not necessarily qualify based on the phychological evaluation currently being used. I believe it will definitely help to identify that 15% of students who need strategic intervention.
While this is a great tool, lets remember that a tool is just what it iis, an instrument that has to be used by us! Its not enough to identify and to write but we need to DO! All,and I mean all teachers should be involved in the process and through their subject matter, show how learning spills into all subjects. We need to make sure that students can do math not only in math class but in art and music. To teach to part of the student we have to touch all of the student.
The key is to identify the students as early as possible. The more help they get early on the better it will be. We need to be active as group and be willing to help each other with this task.
RIT will help those students who do not qualify under the current evaluation process hopefully be able to qualify and receive services. So many of our students get “left behind” because they do not meet the criteria to be placed in the SPED program. RTI gives us more strategies and data to identify students who need specialized instruction.
The key is to get our students identified early. We see many falling through the cracks. With us using more strategies and working together we can meet the needs of our students.
This could be a great tool to help indentify students with "learning needs" early, that dont qualify for other services. Also to show students skills learned in one subject can and will be used in other subjects.
East will be Solution Oriented and not problem focused. It would continue to be a place where learning is the #1 priority. Early intervention would lead to success. And the atmosphere would be that of collaboration.
Most of us identify and discuss problems that our students are having because it's easy to offer up that information. RIT doesn't just "look" at the problems. It is a data driven system that focuses on early intervention and solutions to those problems. To address the needs of all students we must be fully committed as an entire school and utilize all or our resourses.
The key to success with RTI is following through with the proposed interventions. The follow through of the intervention is the most difficult and important part of the process. After RTI is implemented, I believe that we will begin to see happier students. The students that fell between the cracks before will be rescued and then aided with RTI.
The key to RtI is, naturally, collaboration, and meeting the needs of our individual students. I feel that by implementing each component of RtI, the students will have a larger chance of becoming successful.
RTI will increase the need for good communication and collaboration amongst the faculty about what works best with different students. Ideally, students who need a certain strategy would be identified early and that strategy would already be in place ASAP to help the student learn as much as he/she can while at East.
RTI will definitely increase the communication with parents as well as our faculty. I like the idea of using strategies that focus on target areas before pursuing EC evaluations. If an area of difficulty is addressed and progress is made time and unneccessary testing could be avoided. Also, focusing on the positive and the possibilities is so much more important than listing the negatives.
RTI will hopefully mean earlier identification of students who need additional help. It will mean that teachers will have to work together to develop and implement strategies that will work for individual students. In the end, we hope that this will make our students more successful in school and life.
This sounds like lots of work that will easily reap obvious rewards. It's also a great way to increase communication between ALL teachers. I truely believe this will open numerous doors for students as well as staff!
Early identifcation of needs and developing an intervention plan to assist students is critical. However, if evaluation and revisions are not completed, then the plan is not really affective. Completing the core curriculum mapping will be essential to helping identify areas of student needs.
I believe the RTI data will help us better serve individual students who may have been overlooked before. It is easy to identify students who have problems learning, but determining the cause of the problem is not always so easy. I feel the RTI interventions will make it easier to develop solutions and incorporate strategies that will increase student success.
I hope that East will be a place where all children will receive the assistance that they need. RTI is all about looking below the surface to find the real issues. Many times students use their behavior to cover up what is really wrong. Teachers have to meet the needs of the student before they can learn anything. RTI will be a vehicle with which to do this. It is not always easy to find the problem and it helps to have input from parents. We have to believe that all children can and will learn.
I see RTI at East as a catalyst for change in student intervention strategies. Communication, planning and feedback will require much from us. Student success will be the payoff.
I think the key is to identify the student and their needs asap....however, I think that as a school we do a good job meeting their needs once they are identified especially in inclusion. I hope that this will help everyone to become more aware of individual student needs
The focus is on the solution rather than the problem. Hopefully, after RTI is fully implemented, those students who need intervention strategies WILL be reached where through previous methods, they might not have been. Also, collaboration between teachers will improve in relation to students who need interventions. Research based interventions will be used.
RTI seems to be a great system to enhance school-wide comunication. However, the challenge is going to be involving ALL of a student's teachers that communicate with a child in need.
Rti gives the student a chance to succeed, instead of failing. This success will happen through early detection and group effort with our falculty and staff.
I think RtI will be a better way to help students with learning needs. Once we identify the area of need, we should be better able to help these students improve. I think we will have fewer students that "fall between the cracks".
RtI will enable us to be a better success at identifying those students early. We must continue to work together as ONE unit striving for the same goal if this is to happen. Our goal - STUDENT SUCCESS!
I am consistently seeing the words "uses all resources" in the plan, therefore I feel as though my role wouldn't be to just assist ELL students, but all students. Although the ESL students are my primary concern, I do occasionally pull out students that aren't in my program as well. However, the Rtl plan makes me wonder if I shouldn't be doing more of this.
All students can learn, but they may for many reasons not all learn at the same pace. Assessments are needed to determine the progress of each person and to ensure that students attain the essential benchmarks needed in order to be successful at the next level. For those who are behind or not keeping up, a support group is needed to monitor their progress and make sure they get the essentials to be successful in suceeding years. This is important because one year lays the foundation for the next.
The key to RTI's success is determining student strengths/weaknesses. We should keep this in mind while creating our subjects curriculum maps, and consistantly assess our essential standards throughout the year. This way we can pin point weaknesses and monitor growth.
I agree with what Mandy had to say, in that, the current evaluation process may not identify learning needs of the student. Hopefully, with RTI we can make a close approximation of the current needs of students. Once we identify the needs we can use strategies that will work. Two things need to happen in order for RTI to work. First, we need to be knowledgable and competent in using RTI. Secondly, we need to time to collaborate with our colleagues at strategies that will assist the student in their learning.
In order to have great results with RtI, I believe that we need sound, strong interventions that we can use. Identifying the student's specific problem will guide us with this. Re-evaluating the RtI from time to time will be essential.
I think RTI is a good thing. We always talk about "No Child Left Behind". I think that if children's weaknesses are caught early enough, then they cannot slip through the cracks and can get the education they need. I believe that communication among the staff is needed to do this also.
I believe that being able to select strong, sound interventions will be important in this. Using a diagnostic will be very important so we are able to compare data. I feel that for RtI to be as successful as possible, we need to re-evaluate RtIs.
The use of RTI will help to identify students early on. Many times children do not qualify for special education based on the testing that they are given, RTI gives us more tools and ways to help place a child in SPED that may have not qualified before. It is a group effort and has to be followed by everyone.
RtI’s success relies heavily on teachers having an understanding of the shared vision for student success. Teachers must not only collaborate for common goals, and assessments, but have time for reflection on their practices. In my opinion, collaboration is just the starting point. We need to know what others are actually doing for their students to be successful. It’s important that I know, as an educator, new ideas and practices that are working within my school. I like to think of all of us as experts. I’m still learning and who better to learn from than my peers. So, what should EAMS look like? We should look like a team of teachers working for the success or our students. Hopefully, the outcome will be students succeeding and achieving. How will we look differently? Perhaps we will spend more time planning with one another. Also, we need to reflect on those common assessments. We must use what the data tells us. However, I need other’s opinions on ideas for better practices when I have struggling students.
I think we will see a change in our attitudes towards students. Instead of becoming frustrated and overwhelmed with the student(s) we can look at how we approach them with our instruction and curriculum. We will be focusing more on us. It sounds as though it is going to be challenging, but through this program, we have a better chance of catching the children who really need help but are not "identified." I believe that as a staff we will be collaborating more and in the long run, student progress will be more evident.
I think that everyone benefits by early detection of needs-it helps the teacher to plan correctly and the students to be in an atmosphere of success. I would love to be of assistance. I don't always know how to assist students with different needs. If used correctly, this should help everyone involved.
I can't wait to see how this looks with the EC population. There are so many children who need help that don't "qualify." I'm excited to see how early intervention can help solve this problem.
The key to RtI success begins with early identification of students and their needs. Not only do we need to develop a plan, we need to work as a whole school to implement it. With this, we should be able to better serve individual students, especially those who have "fallen between the cracks". Once implemented, we should begin to see a desire for learning and willingness to work from students receiving the interventions. Hopefully, we will also see less frustrated teachers since we will be working collaboratively.
I THINK ANY TOOL THAT CAN BE USED TO HELP A CHILD WHO IS FALLING THRU THE CRACKS TO SUCCEED IS A WONDERFUL IDEA,BUT IT HAS TO BE USED BY EVERYONE TO WORK.
The use of RTI will allow low achievers that are not in the EC Program to be identified. RTI will help us look for resources and find interventions to help students who are having problems. This will require that all staff members work together to meet the educational needs of all students attending EAMS.
Early intervention will lead to student success. An effective diagnostic assessment is essential to pinpoint the areas in which students are struggling. Once the problem area is identified, interventions should bring the gap.
I like the idea of universal screening to see where every child is developmentally. However I feel like both science and social studies are consistently left out of the screening process. If we continue to leave social studies and science out of the process students, and teachers may feel like these areas are less relevant.
Intervention is more important than identification; focus on the interventions and NOT the problem. Each student can be engaged in learning. As we get better and better at this, we will see more and more students participating and experiencing successes.
RTI will be a powerful tool to help all children learn at their level. We can find out how to help the child succeed. Once he/she is successful, they will like the feeling and continue to improve. They will not use excuses like they have the past to accept failure.
I think it's a great process for early grades to use, but by the time they get to middle school, it may be too late! If the early grade levels catch the problem and identify effective strategies, it could make our jobs alot easier.
I think all good teachers already perform RTI as part of their instructional strategies. (if they don't then something is wrong. ) I think that talking with other teachers and curriculum mapping can help, but teachers who have been teaching their curriculum for long periods of time, know their objectives and how long it will take to achieve them. Teachers who analyze their lessons and techniques from day to day are already using "data/information" to drive their instruction. This is something that I have always invested much time in doing. I have never called it RTI, just common sense to be the best you can be.
early identification........proactive not reactive intervention.......coach beck!
